Exploring Technologies
Students will develop fundemental skills in concentrated areas of the technological program at Holy Trinity. Students will work “hands-on” with a variety of tools, equipment, and software commonly used in industry. Students will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary education and training pathways leading to careers in technology-related fields.
Exploring Transportation & Manufacturing Technology TIJ10B
This exploratory course introduces students to concepts and skills related to transportation and manufacturing technology. Transportation technology encompasses the maintenance, servicing, and repair of various types of vehicles. Manufacturing technology encompasses technical drawing, properties and preparation of materials, manufacturing techniques, and welding. Students will develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues, and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary pathways leading to careers in both of these fields.
Exploring Construction TCJ10B
This exploratory course introduces students to concepts and skills related to construction. A unit of shop safety is required for all students at the beginning of each course to ensure that students are aware and practice shop safety protocols. Exploring construction will expose the students to the characteristics of wood and wood products, the proper use of hand and power tools and basic joinery techniques. Students will have the opportunity to apply their skills in creating a variety of small woodworking projects. Students will discuss environmental issues related to contruction practices and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary pathways leading to careers that require woodworking skills.
Exploring Hairstyling & Aesthetics & Tech Design TIJ10G
This exploratory course introduces students to both Technological Design and Hairstyling & Aesthetics. The Tech Design component will have a fashion design and marketing focus. Students will engage in a variety of hands on projects which will encompass creating floor plans, fashion clothing designs, store modeling and marketing, creating conceptual design proposals as well as building scaled models of a fashion store. The Hairstyling & Aesthetics component will focus on hairstyling and spa services the principles and elements of design, and trends in the industry. Students will also develop an awareness of pathways leading to careers in both of these professions.
Grade 9, Exploring Computer & Communications Technology, TEJ1O / TGJ1O
This exploratory course introduces students to concepts and skills in computer technology, which encompasses computer systems, networking, interfacing, and programming, as well as electronics and robotics. The communications technology component will include aspects of television/video and movie production, radio and audio production, print and graphic communications, photography, and interactive new media and animation. Students will develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues, and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary pathways leading to careers in both fields.
